Exceptional injury analysis allowing reduced injury and enhanced performance.
As Injuries are complex and multifaceted, our Initial assessment, will focus on understanding the history and the mechanism of injury and how the bio-mechanical impact your sport / lifestyle places on your body. This is followed by completing a full musculoskeletal assessment, which helps identify the source of the exact issues.
Our assessments, diagnosis and treatments are completed through a combination of methods that may include: manual therapy, manipulation and dry needling; modalities such as IASMT, taping, Cupping, Ultrasound, TENS and exercise prescription. Education plays an important role, and our teams goals are to return you to your optimal function and strength, while educating you about your injury. This allows you to independently maintain a healthy body without the constant supervision of a therapist, which is key in reducing recovery times and optimising performance and movement.

An example of the typical Injuries we treat are:
• Ligament and joint Sprains and Strains
• Muscle Strains and tears
• Tennis / Golfers Elbow
• Running Injuries – Plantar Fasciitis, Shin Splints, Achilies tendinopathies, stress fractures etc.
• Bio-mechanical irregularities
• Illiotibial Band Syndrome (ITB)
• Sciatica
• Pre and Post Operative rehabilitation.
• Rotator Cuff Injuries
• Spinal Disk related Injuries.

An amazing array of treatments for any individual or athlete who is struggling with tension, spasms, postural imbalances and firing pattern issues within their muscles.
Our experts offer a bespoke service of varying skills and techniques to suit your budget and requirments, from Myofascial release, chronic tension reduction, imbalance correction, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM), cupping, TENS, trigger point therapy, soft tissue release, muscle firing correction and hot stone therapy.

Lets face it, we all push things too far sometimes, and at 8th Element we know a thing or two about movement. Which is where our specialist massage therapy treatments can help.
Its essential in promoting and improving muscle recovery, physical fitness and mental awareness; in turn helping to reduce rehabilitation times and alleviating physical and mental stress levels, promoting excellent performance, health and well being.
Each treatment is individually tailored, in order to help you release tension, relieve pain, improve imbalances and firing patterns through mobilising soft tissues in order to improve performance and prevent injury.
You’ll speed up your heeling process and significantly reduce any discomfort within the muscle fascia or connective tissue by mobilising, loosening, and helping eliminate cramps, spasms, tears and bruising.
Not only that, the increased blood flow and circulation allows significant toxin removal improving the supply of your wonder healing molecule ‘OXYGEN’, improving nutrient supply to the soft tissues. All in all assisting muscular Range of movement, muscle recruitment and recovery.

A revolutionary therapy clinically proven and highly effective for soft tissue tendon injuries and chronic pain.
High-tech, non-invasive treatment for chronic soft tissue, tendon and certain bone conditions.

Our Radial Shockwave system exerts a mechanical pressure and tension force (high energy pulses), which are applied through the applicator head-on contact to the injury site, and dependant on the site and condition you are treating, its scientifically proven to yield and speed up approx 82% in the healing process through 3-6 sessions.

This mechanical pressure causes cavitation (formation of empty space) in the tissues. As these bubbles collapse, they create smaller secondary energy waves, further assisting in the breakdown of pathological deposits within the damaged tissues. The several thousand shockwaves that are applied through injured tissue help create stimulation of fibroblasts (cells fundamental in the formation and healing of our muscle/tendon/ligament/skin tissues) and osteoblasts (cells that form new bone) enhancing the healing process and cell generation of soft tissue and bones.

Reducing Pain:
ESWT also targets pain by stimulating anaesthesia where nerves sending pain signals to the brain become over stimulated resulting in decreased activity thus diminishing or eliminating pain. After a few treatments the pain gate control mechanism alters its stimulation, and as a result, we see longer periods of decreased pain. Finally, ESWT is believed to trigger a ‘reset’ button that recalibrates pain perception centrally.

So why not target your tendon, ligament, muscle or joint pain effectively and enhance post surgical recovery, while receiving tailor rehabilitation for your lifestyle or sporting needs?

Issues Commonly Treated:
* Plantar fasciitis
* Shoulder pain, e.g. calcific lesions of the rotator cuff and bony spurs
* Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow)
* Medial epicondylitis (golfer‘s elbow)
* Patellar tendonitis (jumper‘s knee)
* Tibial stress syndrome (shin pain)
* Achilles tendonitis
* Hip pain (bursitis)
* Heel pain, heel spurs
* Chronic neck dysfunction
* Illiotibial Band (ITB) Friction Syndrome

‘getting your life back on track’ with exceptional chronic pain management for ongoing, long term pain, with structured and measured outcomes for your pain reduction.

The 8th Element Program delivers evidence based methods for chronic pain treatments and self-care, to help anyone experiencing pain of any form, from recent and minor injuries, but more specifically to chronic conditions that have been ongoing for years. Our aim is to provide relief and improved quality of life for patients with progressive and degenerative conditions.
The ultimate focus is on achieving real outcomes. Using evidence-based treatments with measurable results. Educating you to take control and getting you back to embracing what you love through becoming balanced, strong, mobile, confident and in control of your movement.

How It works
Before any treatment, patients undergo a thorough history and bio-psychosocial assessment based on your health, pain and condition. Followed by a physical assessment which may include posture, strength and flexibility.
Once an appropriate assessment has been completed, and any short and/or long-term goals discussed, the practitioner will offer a treatment plan aimed at achieving specific goals. Two phases are then implemented – the physical and psychosocial:

The Physical – Advanced Clinical massage and biomechanical movement analysis / rehabilitation merge together within this application

The Psychosocial - When pain persists, becoming “chronic,” it also becomes more complex. Modern pain research shows that psychological and emotional elements can play a major role. These non-physical components can help the brain “learn” to be in pain, re-wiring the body’s neural circuitry to perpetuate the sensation of pain.
With proper therapeutic attention the brain can "unlearn" pain, paving the way to physical pain relief, which our practitioner helps to implement. Research shows that methods like education, writing, meditation, visualisation, and cognitive behavioural therapy can successfully help the brain to stop this recurring pain cycle.

The result
Minimising pain while maximising quality of life, leaving you confident in your ability to self-manage, control and reduce your pain at home.

My journey into physiotherapy began when I qualified from the University of Herfordshire with a first class honours degree. Since then, I have worked as a rotational physiotherapist at Medway Hospital and even worked as an acute respiratory physiotherapist in intensive care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although this experience gave me great insight into acute illnesses, different neurological conditions and orthopaedic injuries; I knew my clinical skills could be pushed further. Thus I made the move to outpatient physiotherapy, where i have solidified and become experienced in diagnosis, treatments and rehabilitation for those with musculoskeletal issues and joint pain.

I have a keen interest in the body’s biomechanics and skeletal system and love educating and empowering clients to in understanding their diagnosis.

I have a passion for strength and conditioning fitness, so you may have seen me in a few SISU classes!… I believe this enhances my understanding of how musculoskeletal issues can impact on your whole lifestyle and not just movement in isolation. I enjoy using strength and conditioning techniques as a means of treatment to empower clients and enhance overall health.

Outside of physio (and the gym!), I enjoy snow sports, spending time with family and friends … plus the occasional bottomless brunch or two !

Meet John

Founder, Sports Therapist, Movement specialist, PT, Rehab guru and Run Lab technician.

John has a huge passion for movement correction and performance optimisation. After qualifying from university with a BSc(hons) in Sports Therapy, he moved to the USA to further his education and knowledge. On returning a few years later he launched 8th Element with the sight to create an ‘all under one roof’ hub, where expert assessments, advice, treatments and education can be provided to everyone of all abilities at an affordable cost.

Alongside the management of the hub and his continued thirst for knowledge, John assesses Injuries, provides treatments and rehab using a wide range of modalities, including soft tissue and imbalance correction. He loves identifying postural weakness, imbalances and restrictions that are the contributing factors to injuries and performance deficits. Once identified, the rehab, release and education begins.

Over the years, he’s helped a huge range of workers and athletes from those who have been told they can’t be helped to those looking to shave off tenths of a second from their PBs.

As well as Injury assessments and rehab, John is proud to be able to offer and run the rare markerless 3D run lab. One of only a handful in the UK, its abilities are pushing technology to the edge, allowing for injury prediction, prevention and understanding while also allowing for performance enhancement.

Outside of the hub John loves all things adventurous, from track days on his motorbike to surfing, skydiving, kite surfing, obstacle course racing, running, and anything that’ll spike his adrenaline.

Jo loves aiding people to live their life to the full, whether that’s for the competitive or recreational athlete, avid gardener or family person. Her passion lies in helping people reach their goals. After qualifying as a Physiotherapist from Brunel University in 2016, she volunteered as a Physiotherapist in a Health Clinic in Cape Town, South Africa. From this experience, she discovered her love for assessing, diagnosing and rehabilitating those with musculoskeletal injuries. On returning to the UK she started working as a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist in GP surgeries and Sports Centres in and around Kent.

Jo has a particular skill set in taking a holistic approach to rehabilitation. She spent a year in a split role as a Physiotherapist and a Functional assessor for The Centre of Health and Disability Assessments. This provided a wealth of insight into the impact of mental health upon physical health and vice versa. Since then, she has qualified as a Mindfulness teacher through Mindfulness UK and prides herself on ensuring people feel well listened to throughout.

She loves to create individualised physiotherapy sessions through combining her knowledge of injuries with skilled manual therapy, education, empowerment, and tailored exercises. She also enjoys sharing her expertise as a qualified Pilates instructor through the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute.

Alongside treating injuries, Jo has a keen interest in the often under spoken areas of bladder and bowel incontinence and women’s health, which, can be just as limiting to sports and daily life. She is currently taking further training in these areas and is excited to bring this into her practice.

Outside of Physiotherapy, you can find her exploring new trails, outdoor swimming, running, heading to the beach, spending time with family and friends and detouring to tasteful coffee shops.

I have worked within the sporting world for over 12 years now, my love for coaching started with and continues to be with gymnastics. My own sporting background is as a martial artist, training up until my early 20s when a hip injury resulted in me stopping. As a result of this I have continued my career within sport as a coach and further developed my skills within the world of sports injury and rehabilitation.

Over the past 7 years I have gained qualifications in advanced sports massage therapy using different modalities of soft tissue techniques to aid recovery, exercise rehabilitation and more recently strength and conditioning coaching.

I am a firm believer that working together, empowering and motivating patients to participate actively in rehabilitation through education and guidance is the most successful way to tackle injury or achieve a goal. An ethos I strive to implement into each session.

Over the last three years I have been lucky enough to gain experience at both ends of the spectrum, working with national level gymnast helping with injury prevention, recovering and general strength and conditioning programmes. And also with the general public within GP settings as a physio assistant, helping people recover and manage with more degenerative MSK scenarios such as osteoarthritis and long term joint replacement rehabilitation.

I’m very much looking forward to putting this all into practise at 8th element working and along side the experienced team at hand and the amazing clients.
